Smartphones play a huge role in our lives. We use them for almost anything, from ordering food to paying for purchases. But this also means our phones contain many personal details like credit card information, emails, and more. If you intend to trade your current phone at MLG Cash because you’ve decided to buy a new one, there is one thing you should always remember to do – clear the data. We’ve made it easy for you by including a guide below on how to clear the data on your android device.
Clear Data on Android Phone
Before you begin clearing the data, it’s always a good idea to do a backup of your old phone. Otherwise, those precious photos or data would be gone. Once you’re done:
- Open Settings
- Choose System
- Select Reset options
You’ll then see four options:
- Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth: This is useful if you’re facing issues with connectivity.
- Reset app preferences: This will restore the default settings of your notifications and apps.
- Erase downloaded SIMs: This deletes digital SIMs that you don’t need.
- Erase all data (factory reset): This is the one to click on to erase the data.
Next, you’ll see a screen that notifies you of what will be deleted and what accounts you’re signed into. Tap on Erase all data.
You will be prompted to enter a PIN if you have set up security protection. Next, you’ll see another screen asking you to confirm if you want to delete the data. Tap on Erase all data if you are sure.
And you’re done! Most of the time, it only takes a few minutes for the process to be completed. Your phone will restart and prompt you to select things such as the language, network, and account – the usual setup you need to go through for new phones. If you see these questions, it means that your data has been successfully deleted.
Also, there are some things you should take note of when clearing your data. For users of Samsung phones, you may be prompted to enter the password for your Samsung account in order to perform a factory reset (in the case where you’ve created a Samsung account and added it to your device).
If you are using an Android device that is running on an older version of the operating system (before version 8), you may be asked to log in after your phone restarts. Hence, we suggest turning off the screen lock option:
- Go to Security
- Select Screen lock
- Select None
Before you begin the reset, you should also delete your Google account using these steps:
- Go to Settings
- Tap on Account
- Select Google
Some evidence suggests that data may continue to remain on the phone despite a reset. One thing you can do is encrypt your device before resetting it:
- Go to Settings
- Select Security
- Select Encryption & Credentials
- Select Encrypt phone
